Nakama is a friendship-only social app for anime fans. We collect the minimum information needed to run the service, and we never sell your data. This document explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
1. Information we collect
When you sign up, we ask for a handle, an avatar, your age band, your country, and your anime preferences (favourite shows, characters, genres, sub vs dub). We do not require a phone number or real name.
We automatically collect device information — model, OS version, app version, and a randomly generated install ID — to keep the app working and to detect abuse.
When you chat, vote on debates, post hot takes, or play the daily quote game, we store that activity so the app can function and so we can keep the community safe.
2. How we use your information
- To match you with other fans based on shared anime taste.
- To run features like the Discover feed, debates, daily quote game, and Currently Watching.
- To moderate content and respond to safety reports.
- To send you essential service notifications (you can mute these).
- To improve the app — bug fixes, performance, new features.
3. Who we share data with
Other users see your handle, avatar, age band, country (not city), and the anime preferences you've chosen to display. They never see your email, IP address, or device info.
We use a small number of vendors for hosting, crash reporting, and email — bound by data-processing agreements. We never sell your data, and we don't run third-party advertising trackers.
If we are legally required to disclose information (court order, valid law-enforcement request), we will, and we'll notify you unless prohibited.
4. How long we keep it
Account data lives as long as your account does. Chat messages are stored for 90 days for safety review and then deleted unless flagged. If you delete your account, we wipe your profile within 30 days; backups are purged within 90.
5. Your rights
You can export, edit, or delete your data at any time from Settings → Privacy in the app, or by emailing contact.nakama.app@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws. We honour them all.
6. Children and teens
Nakama is for users 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, email contact.nakama.app@gmail.com and we'll remove the account.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We restrict employee access on a need-to-know basis and run regular security reviews. No system is perfect — if there's ever a breach affecting you, we'll notify you within 72 hours.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way, we'll notify you in-app and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
